Reducing the total mass of the body is known as Weight Loss in medical terms. Weight loss can occur either by the reduction of fluid or body fat. The reasons can be either intentional or unintentional that can be due to any underlying diseases or improper diet.

Intentional weight loss is done to stay fit or to overcome an obese state. It is also done to improve body physique. Decreasing the excess weight also reduces the risk of progression from the prediabetes stage to Type 2 Diabetes.

Maintaining the body mass index will cut down the majority of health risks such as hypertension, heart-related problems, and arthritis. Weight loss can be achieved by reducing calorie intake and adopting healthy eating habits.

Increased physical activity, consuming more fibre that directly contributes to the easy flow of the bowel movements, self-monitoring of diet, and lessening the intake of processed and high saturated food are some of the natural ways of reducing body weight.

Weight loss can also be achieved by consuming pills and supplements that are responsible for decreasing appetite, decreasing the abdominal line, or blocking fat absorption. Extreme obesity can be reduced through Bariatric Surgery, a procedure that involves altering gut hormones.

An Unintentional weight loss occurs due to loss of fluids, body fats, and muscle atrophy and it is something one needs to worry about. An inappropriate and poor nutritional diet can also be one of the reasons for weight loss. However, severe weight loss may lead to serious health conditions and one must consult a medical practitioner to avoid further health risks.

Even though increased body weight is a health concern, reducing it through unnatural and surgical ways is also something one must be aware and warned about. It is often advised to achieve healthy weight loss by proper intake of food, following a healthy routine, and increasing physical activities.
