Advantages of consuming turmeric.

Turmeric is a cherished relative of ginger, which has been used in India for thousands of years. It is categorized as a spice as well as a medicinal herb with numerous health benefits. Curcumin is one of the important compounds present in turmeric, which renders anti-inflammatory properties of the plant.

This medicinal plant is often referred to as Indian saffron and sometimes the golden spice because of its color.  It is usually spotted in countries of Asia and Central America. Ayurveda, a traditional form of Indian medicine suggests the usage of this plant to avail many health benefits.

As already mentioned, curcumin has strong anti-inflammatory properties and its effects match the level of some anti-inflammatory drugs and not to forget it causes no side-effects when taken in the proper dosage. It is also one of the reasons why it has become an integral ingredient in most Indian cuisines.

Even some western studies suggest the use of turmeric to get relief from pain and is also considered a healing agent. Some of the proven health benefits of turmeric are explained briefly in the below section.

1.            Pain reliever: This bright yellow spice is noted to provide relief from intense pain like arthritis. A proper dosage of turmeric every day can help patients with knee pains and it seems to work as well as ibuprofen.

2.            Liver function: It helps soothe liver function because of its antioxidant properties. People with diabetes and other health conditions who take long term drugs are at risk of liver damage. Consuming the right amount of turmeric reduces the risk of getting damaged by toxins.

3.            Digestion: The turmeric’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties play a vital role in the digestion process. No wonder why it is an active ingredient of Indian food.

Every ingredient has its advantages and disadvantages. Anything crossing the limits may upset your health. Before consuming it try to research a bit and then go-ahead. Although there are immense advantages of turmeric, if taken in excess it can reveal its evil side as well. Hence, proceed with care.
